Helsinki Hosts The Tall Ships Races in Summer 2024
Check out Tall Ships if you’re looking for something to do in Helsinki in July 2024. Helsinki will host The Tall Ships Races again, marking the city’s fifth time as a host.
Here is our Tall Ships Races Helsinki 2024 preview.
The event will take place from July 4th to 7th, 2024, in various locations in the city, including South Harbour, Market Square, Katajanokka, Kanavaranta, and North Shore.
This spectacular event is anticipated to draw around 500,000 visitors. The entire event is free, making it accessible to everyone.
Many ships open their decks to the public, allowing visitors to marvel at the old-time shipbuilding up close. The captains independently define the daily opening hours of their boats. They are announced separately on the boards next to the vessel.
It is quite a sight, and the harbor area will buzz with activities celebrating the ships. Program information will be updated closer to the 2024 event.
- Helsinki last hosted the event in 2013.
- The races are held annually in European waters.
- Sail Training International has been organizing it since 1956.
There are 6 host ports in the Baltic Sea, three of which are in Finland: Helsinki, Turku, and Mariehamn. Other host ports include Tallinn in Estonia, Klaipeda in Lithuania, and Szczecin in Poland.
Beyond the event in Helsinki, you can easily visit other host cities, such as Tallinn (July 11–14) and Turku (July 18–21). This is the perfect opportunity for a day trip or an overnight stay.
This is an unmissable event for both locals and tourists in Helsinki this summer.
